I am writing yet another entry on the Battle Creek Revolution Hockey team, as it is my intention to promote our cities sports clubs. The City of Battle Creek as an Amateur Baseball team called the Bombers, and also a Basketball Team called the Knights, to go along with the hockey team, the Revolution.
The Battle Creek Revolution perhaps does not get as much attention as some of the other clubs sometimes, but they do attract a crowd on Friday and Saturday nights. They play at the Rink, which is located behind the Battle Creek Post Office at 75 Houston Street.
The Arena is known as ‘Revolution Arena’ and also offers classes for children of all ages that want to learn how to skate and play hockey. The games themselves often have a lot of children in attendance, and many of them volunteer at concessions and clean up.
The Battle Creek Revolution put on an exciting game, and this season during 2010-2011 the close out their regular season record with 20 wins, 4 losses. I am writing this article because I believe that team sports are a good thing for a city, and Battle Creek is fortunate to have three, despite our size.
Yes, they are not the professional, and the hockey league is small and only Class ‘A’, but it still a good promotion for our city. Perhaps we can look forward to larger leagues for our teams down the road, but for now, I still enjoy being able to walk up and buy a ticket a few minutes before the puck drops on the ice, and know I will find hot cocoa and an open seat on the bleachers inside.
Not to mention, a few hundred other fans who think the same way as I do. I love it when the arena is packed, and the home team wins. It makes for an exciting evening. I have included the video that I compiled from what I filmed of the game on Saturday night, January 29th, 2011.
This game was extremely different from the video I presented in my other blog entry on this. The visiting team was very aggressive, and so was the Revolution, so there were lots of cross checks into the side walls, exciting goals and even a few fights. I hope you enjoy it:
The Battle Creek Revolution is the hockey team that represents our city in a small league called the All-American Hockey League (AAHL) which currently consists of approximately 6 teams according to their website. If you are looking for an evening of exciting entertainment, then you might want to take in a game if you are in the area.
They play at the Ice Rink which is behind the Post Office downtown. The Rink is also called ‘Revolution Arena’. This past weekend, as I write this article on a Sunday night, I attended two of the games and shot a lot of exciting video of the action.
Hockey is a sport that may or may not appeal to everyone, and it can be gruesome to watch. I find it exciting, with the fast action pace that you do not get with many other sports. The Battle Creek Revolution is a very good team, and this year they close out their regular season with a 20-4 record.
They begin their play-offs next week. I have included one of my videos in this blog, and will probably post the other in another entry. This one that I include in this article was the Friday night game where the Revolution played the Michigan Moose. The Battle Creek Revolution won the game 12-4, and it was a well attended game, with a lot of loyal fans. If you decide to take in a game, plan on wearing warm clothes, as it is cold inside the arena, although warmer than it is outside.
There are also interactive games for the kids to be involved in, and a concession stand that includes hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza and nachos. For beverages they serve soda, juice, water, beer, coffee and even hot chocolate. For more information on the Battle Creek Revolution, visit their website at: www.bcrevolutionhockey.com.
